The Afternoon Tea at The Ickworth Hotel, Bury St Edmunds, took place on Thursday 25th September and was attended by 45 local business ladies from the area. The event raised a fantastic £1150, which will go towards the many services provided by Age UK Suffolk, to help older people feel less isolated and remain independent and healthy.

The fundraising event was organised by Robina Cawston, of Atkins Thompson Solicitors, based in Nowton, near Bury St Edmunds. Robina organises the LISB (Lunch Is Serious Business) networking group in Bury St Edmunds for ladies who get together monthly to discuss ways in which they can help each other thrive in the business world and to share skills.

Robina Cawston chose to support Age UK Suffolk as she has a special interest and concern in the welfare of older people in Suffolk and in particular the problems associated with dementia.

Robina said, “I am delighted that so many members of LISB were so generous in supporting such a worthy cause. I know that Age UK Suffolk do so much for our older community and it is great that the money raised at the event will contribute in some way.”

Maggie James, Individual Giving Officer, Age UK Suffolk said, “We were delighted to be chosen to benefit from the event organised by Robina Cawston. All the ladies enjoyed the afternoon which started with a drink on arrival, a chance to listen to local guitarist James Hogg, and to look at a variety of stalls and listen to talks from local businesses, as well as Age UK Suffolk. The Afternoon Tea provided by Ickworth Hotel was fabulous, with many choices of sandwiches and lots of cake! The event raised £1150 which was brilliant and included donations, a raffle and auction, with generous prizes donated from local businesses.”
